The 2020 final of the Soroptomist Public Speaking Competition for second level students was held recently. The eight finalists spoke on topics including women’s empowerment, health and democracy.
Isobel Tiernan, St. Angela’s Waterford, was declared the overall winner, taking home the Perpetual Mildred O’Brien Trophy, plus an Apple iPad and a prize worth €1,000 for her school. Isobel composed and presented an impressively and thought-provoking speech on The Empowerment of Women.
St. Angela’s Waterford have excelled in this competition on numerous occasions and this is the second consecutive year that St. Angela’s have claimed the top prize. Previous All-Ireland winners are Holly Rogan and Áine Caffery. The competition is sponsored by HSBC.
