Jessica Erkal

Jessica is a PhD student in the UCD Star Formation Group, focusing on young stars and protostellar jets. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a Bachelors (Hons) Physics & Astrophysics in 2016, before completing her MSc in Space Science and Technology at UCD. During her Masters, Jessica joined the team building Ireland’s first satellite, EIRSAT-1. Jessica works on the onboard communications system, and leads product assurance activities for the satellite.
Jessica studies jets of material that are ejected from young stars as they form, to try to understand the role they play in further star formation and planet evolution, using world class facilities, like the Hubble Space Telescope, for her research. Her research has been presented at international conferences to experts in her research field, a very active community around the world.
